About Mehmert Tiling Inc.

 In the winter of 1974-1975 Mehmert Tiling, Inc. was formed with Cliff Norman of Saratoga, IA. The location was on the northwest side of Saratoga in the north Quonset. The office was in the west end. Cliff Norman and sons Ron and Jerry decided to expand Norman Construction into large-scaled roadwork and wanted to relinquish their ties with Mehmert Tiling Inc in 1976. In 1977, Larry & Suzanne Mehmert purchased Cliff Norman’s shares of MTI stock and took sole ownership paying Cliff Norman a monthly rent for using the office space and shop area. Shortly after, Larry and Suzanne purchased 10 acres land from Jack Fritcher and his son Butch Fritcher in mid part of Saratoga northeast of bridge on Hwy 9 which is where the shop currently is today! In 1977 the first shop was built which was a 60'x120' building with an attached office of 20'x15'.

In 1975, Mehmert Tiling purchased its very first plow. The Zor plow was purchased from Zor industries in Ontario, Canada.  The plow was not self propelled and had to be attached to a D8 dozer. Larry also usually used another D8 dozer with a winch to help pull the plow. After the purchase of the Zor plow, Larry became the sales representative in IA, IL, and MN. In 1976, Larry Mehmert sold the original plow and bought a newer plow with updated features later that year. The second ever self-contained plow the company had owned can be seen above.  In 1999, Brent Mehmert purchased the first BRON 450 tile plow the company had owned! This plow was one of the biggest we had had up to that point. Now we run a BRON 585 tile plow (the largest drainage plow BRON makes) and a BRON 550 tile plow!

Brent Mehmert, Larry and Suzanne Mehmert's son, currently runs the company. The shop has grown in size tremendously and added another building as you can see to the left!
